 HIGH-RESOLUTION COASTAL MAPPING PROJECT
This $700,000 project is now under way: CASI is being flown in the Annapolis Valley and the Bras d'Or Lakes in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, and the North Shore of Prince Edward Island (PEI). Land Lidar is being flown in the Annapolis Valley and PEI.  COASTAL ZONE CANADA 2000

 NB ENVIRONMENTAL TRUST FUND AWARDS

 SEAMAP
The Seabed Resource Mapping Program is currently being developed by Fisheries and Oceans Canada, National Defence and Natural Resources Canada. It focuses on sea and lakebed mapping of Canada's offshore, coastal and aquatic lands. This program would be national in scope, cover the entire Canadian EEZ, require substantial new resources, be conducted with other government, industry and university partners.  CALL FOR PAPERS - DIGITAL EARTH 2001
1 October is the deadline for submitting abstracts to Digital Earth 2001 scheduled for 24-28 June 2001 in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Digital Earth will integrate four events into one: the 2nd International Symposium on Digital Earth, the National Conference on Geomatics and the Canadian Institute of Geomatics Annual General Meeting, the Geomatics Atlantic 2001 Conference and TExpo 2001.  DFO MINISTER'S ADVISORY COUNCIL ON THE OCEANS
Nominations to the nine-member Minister's Advisory Council on Oceans are being solicited. An online nomination form is available at http://www.oceanscanada.com. All nominations must be received by 15 August 2000.

 NATIONAL PROGRAMME OF ACTION REPORT NOW AVAILABLE
The NPA is a national programme to prevent marine pollution and protect coastal habitats from land-based activities. It is Canada's response to the UNEP-sponsored Global Programme of Action (GPA) adopted by Canada and 108 other nations in 1995.  RADARSAT MID-TERM REVIEW
The two-volume report from a 1999 RADARSAT mid-term review is now available. The 1st volume presents and analyses the results from the interviews conducted with industry and government. The 2nd volume describes applications, products, services and tools developed by industry, including several applications relating to the Oceans and the Coastal Zone.

 CALCULATE YOUR ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT
The Ecological Footprint is a measure of human impact on nature. The average American uses 25 acres to support his or her lifestyle. In comparison, the average Canadian lives on a footprint 25 percent less, and the average Italian on 60 percent less. A basic questionnaire to calculate the Ecological Footprint for an individual living in North America is available.

 IOC LAUNCHES E-LIBRARY
The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission has launched its new e-Library to provide access to hundreds of its publications. All new publications will henceforth be available for download and online viewing.

 FGDC RELEASES HYDROGRAPHIC STANDARD FOR PUBLIC REVIEW
The U.S. Federal Geographic Data Committee has released the Hydrographic Data Content Standard for Coastal and Inland Waterways for review until 31 August 2000. This public review provides software vendors and data users and producers with an opportunity to comment on this standard in order to ensure that it meets their needs.  SPATIAL DATA FOR CZM IN THE SOUTHEASTERN U.S.
The Ocean Planning Information System (OPIS), developed by the NOAA Coastal Services Center in partnership with the states of North and South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida, provides the coastal management community in the southeastern U.S. with access to regional georeferenced regulatory and environmental spatial datacritical to timely, integrated decision making and analysis.  COSTS OF COASTAL MANAGEMENT
References and figures on the costs of Coastal Management worldwide are being collected by the Coastal Guide, one of the European Union for Coastal Conservation (EUCC) member organisations. Of specific interest is the annual cost/investment since 1995 in: coastal defence; sewage treatment (for coastal water quality); and conservation of coastal and marine habitats and species.  NEW DATABASE OF ICM EDUCATION AND TRAINING COURSES
As part of the Coastal Guide Programme, the EUCC is compiling an Internet database of ICM Education and Training Courses.
