Beach Seine Event

Date: Friday, June 10

Location: Mactaquac Provincial Park Beach

Groups of students (up to 60 per group) will have the opportunity to learn more about the ecology of rivers thanks to DFO and NB Tourism and Parks. This free event will get students to participate in a stewardship initiative by capturing fish and invertebrates, identifying, counting and releasing them to minimize our impact on the environment. Discussions will take place regarding the importance of riverine habitat and the role of rivers in our ecosystems. Don't forget your rubber boots. On World Oceans Day, come join our DFO staff members in Topsail beach for a complete make-over! This special day is meant to celebrate the important role of oceans. The 2nd Annual World Oceans Day Family Event

Date: Saturday, June 11th, 10 AM - 4 PM

Location: The Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Center 80 East White Hills Road, St. John's NL.

This free family event features a variety of fun and educational activities for kids of all ages. This year Terry Reilly will perform and free cake and tote bags will be offered.


Wildcove Beach Clean-up  

Date: Saturday, June 11th 

Location: Norris Point, NL 

Adults and Children will be helping to Clean-up Wildcove Beach in Norris Point Newfoundland. There will be prizes and free pizza with refreshments to follow the clean up.

Fishermen and Scientists Research Society present their Annual Oceans 11 Outstanding Student Awards to Grade 11 students from across Nova Scotia. Fisheries and Oceans Tour Guides will also give a special tour of the Bedford Institute of Oceanography to the awarded students.


Seventh Annual Elisabeth Mann Borgese Ocean Lecture: Arts and the Sea: A Celebration

This year's event will feature CBC's Paul Kennedy and a range of ocean-inspired artists in an evening of conversation, music, writing and visual arts.

IOI-Canada, Oceans Film Festival

Date: Evenings of the 15th, 22nd, 26th and 27th June 2011.

Location: Museum of Natural History, 1747 Summer Street and Saint Mary's University, 923 Robie Street.

Building on last year’s overwhelming success, there will be four film screening events. The first evening will have a family-friendly theme where audience members of all ages are encouraged to attend. The second evening will hopefully not only educate but also inspire action as we will be exposed to two contemporary issues affecting ocean sustainability. The third evening will show the work of a local film maker and the final evening will bring together several international short films touching on marine management.
