The Coastal & Ocean Information Network Atlantic (COINAtlantic) is a non-governmental organization based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We are dedicated to supporting the integrated management of coastal and ocean resources in Atlantic Canada through open data management and information sharing. COINAtlantic works across sectors and collaborates with partners to understand needs and develop information products, facilitate conversations, and organize workshops and webinars, to support relevant and timely coastal and ocean information exchange. COINAtlantic has been supporting access to coastal and ocean data since 1992 and recently joined other partners in Atlantic Canada to form the Atlantic Regional Association of the Canadian Integrated Ocean Observing System (CIOOS Atlantic).
COINAtlantic is seeking candidates for the part-time position of Finance Officer. This position requires the candidate to have knowledge of not-for-profit administration, payroll, project management, and bookkeeping. The Finance Officer works directly with the COINAtlantic Executive Director.
If successful, an initial 6-month employment agreement has potential to be expanded to a long-term position with yearly employment agreements.
Salary range: $21-30 per hour depending on experience.
Start date: fall 2021, as soon as possible.
This position has flexible hours each week, requiring between 5-15 hours per week with work performed between 8am and 4pm Atlantic time to provide for collaboration with Staff. Some work can be carried out remotely, however, preferably, we are seeking a candidate who can work from the COINAtlantic Office in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Experience:
The successful candidate will possess knowledge, either through education or equivalent experience, of non-profit administration, payroll, and bookkeeping.
Knowledge and experience using Sage 50 Accounting Software.
Proficient with spreadsheet software, online financial portals.
Experience with project management: assist with budgets for project proposals, and preparation of project reports; and review project documents such as proposals, contribution agreements, and contracts.
Experience with Secretary/Treasurer duties in a not-for-profit society.
